Norampac-Cascades Mills Get FSC Certification

Norampac announces today that its boxboard manufacturing East Angus and Jonquière mills, have received an FSC certification for their usage of raw materials which are responsibly produced from an environmental standpoint.

The two mills have received their certification from SGS, a registered certifier of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The Norampac-Cascades East Angus mill becomes the first boxboard manufacturer to receive the FSC 100% recycled certification in North America, an honorable mention for this Cascades division. In order to obtain the FSC 100% recycled certification for its Conquest® and Orford® products, the East Angus mill had to demonstrate that it respects the minimum percentage of post-consumer fibers required when purchasing the raw materials.

As for the Norampac-Cascades Jonquière mill, it has received the FSC mixed certification for its products such as ArctiKoat®, Sylvacycle®, Supercycle®, Sylvatech®, Microcycle® and ZkoatTM. This type of certification is given to mills that manufacture their products from both recycled and virgin fibers. The Jonquière mill also proved throughout the rigorous FSC verification process, that its products are made with the percentage of post-consumer fibers required and from FSC certified virgin fibers.

Commenting this announcement, Vice-President Marketing, Business Development and General Sales Manager for Norampac boxboard, Louis Lemaire, said: “We are proud of these two certifications that demonstrate that our products are respectful of the environment, since they are made from recycled raw materials that encourage sustainable development. Furthermore, it is a great privilege for Norampac-Cascades East Angus to be the first boxboard mill in North America to obtain the 100% recycled FSC certification. This will enable us to be even more competitive in our market and to offer to our customers products with a remarkable environmental performance”.

The Norampac-Cascades Versailles (CT) mill has also been audited in the FSC standardization process for its products, and expects to receive the certification shortly. “We are confident that the FSC certification of our products will enable us to satisfy better than before, the market requirements that tend more and more to offer consumers products that comply with more severe environmental standards” added Mr. Lemaire.

The FSC certification is a verification process that recognizes through a combination of principals and criterions, companies demonstrating a responsible usage of forest products, through all their production process. The verification criterions are intended to insure the preservation of ecosystems, biodiversity and respect of close communities.
