Poll: Chinese consumers fret over excessive packaging
Approximately 97.5 percent of respondents to a poll conducted by the China Youth Daily believe excessive packaging is a serious problem for shoppers. Some 48.4 percent of the polled 4,306 respondents said plainly-packaged products are scarce and they are often forced to buy products with large amounts of packaging. The survey indicated that 83.2 percent of respondents consider excessive packaging to be a waste of resources and a cause of environmental damage. By contrast, only 14.3 percent of those surveyed said they approve of excessive packaging, saying the packaging is a result of market demand.

Berlin Packaging opens 70,000-sq.-ft. NJ warehouse
Package and closure manufacturer Berlin Packaging has opened a new 70,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Cranbury, NJ. The facility will house packages for just-in-time delivery to area customers participating in its inventory management programs. The company also is doubling its office space in nearby Fort Lee, NJ, to accommodate ongoing business growth in the region. According to company representatives, with the new warehouse in New Jersey, packages will be available within a two-hour delivery radius of Berlin Packaging in southern, northern and central New Jersey as well as Long Island, northeast Pennsylvania and Fairfield County, CT.

Nexeo Solutions, Borealis sign N. America distribution
Plastics distributor Nexeo Solutions has partnered with chemicals firm Borealis involving North American distribution of Bormed range of polyolefins products targeted to the healthcare industry. The partnership initiated when Nexeo acquired Ashland, which had been distributing Borealis-produced polypropylene and polyethylene in Europe for 15 years. The distribution agreement has been expanded to include new products such as Borealis' Borstar PP and PE solutions. Nexeo Solutions now distributes more than 500 Borealis products to more than 3,000 customers throughout Europe.

Novelis honored with Georgia Governor International Award
Aluminum rolling and recycling firm Novelis has received the 2012 Georgia Governor's International Awards in the International Deal of the Year category for opening its Global Research & Technology Center in Kennesaw earlier this year. The award recognized Novelis for its commitment to the Atlanta area and economic impact on the state. The Global Research & Technology Center serves as a hub for its R&D and engineering efforts to create aluminum for products including beverage cans, cars and consumer electronics.
